This paper reports on a Joule-level multi-pass laser amplification device with diode end-pumped square-rod neodymium glass (Nd:glass) bonded to K9 glass. The generated 1.17 J pulse energy at 1 Hz and 1053 nm. optical-to-optical efficiency was 13.01%, the effective extraction 44.23%. Comparing Nd:glass of same specification without under conditions, thermal wave aberration former 85.71% that latter, which is 0.78 um. near-field modulation degree highest output 1.42 within 90% spot, far-field concentration 81.88% 2.5-fold diffraction limit. bonding method square rod relatively novel in systems pumped by end face can be further studied future works.

We have built a diode-pumped Nd:glass regenerative amplifier that is able to produce energies up to 20 mJ within a 470-fs pulse duration at a 1-Hz repetition rate.
